I write here mostly for myself. For fun, to help my thinking, and to have something to look back on. Hence, I write myself, I use LLMs only to critique my piece, find logical mistakes, and such. And if someone else finds something useful here, all the better.

Currently

I’m an Engineering Manager and Tech Lead at Statista, working on search, recommendations, and AI assistants on statista.com and through APIs, MCP, and agent-based integrations. I lead a team of four engineers.

Our search and backend stack is built primarily in Rust on AWS, using OpenSearch, with a few supporting services in Python and TypeScript.

I split my time between engineering code, system design, and reviews, and helping the team navigate product decisions, collaboration, priorities, and disciplinary leadership.

Previously

I led a team of four engineers building the first recipe recommendation system for Cookidoo, the recipe platform for the Thermomix.

We took it from the initial product idea through prototyping to production. A/B tests showed a significant increase in user engagement. I wrote substantial parts of the codebase and helped establish our software engineering and DevOps practices.

The system was built in Python on AWS, using tools including Spark, Kubeflow, and DynamoDB.
